Bollywood Actors With Most Filmfare Awards For Best Actor
Filmfare Awards has been finding the best of the best of Bollywood every year for us since 1954. For decades, it was the best and only award system has has always remained one of the most coveted awards in Bollywood. Artists aspire to win a Filmfare when they put that extra hard work into their work. The most popular category, of course, is the best actor category. So who all have done the best when it comes to winning the best actor Filmfare? Let’s take a look at a long list of actors and what they have won the awards for. This list does not consider actors with less than 3 wins.
4. Rajesh Khanna, Nseeruddin Shah and Aamir Khan – 3 wins
Rajesh Khanna, the original superstar, the man who took Bollywood by storm in his days, won the Filmfare best actor award for Sachaa Jhutha in 1971, Anand in 1972 and Avishkaar in 1975. Though he got another 11 nominations between 1970 and 1984, he did not win any after 1972.
Naseeruddin Shah, considered by many as one of the best actors the industry ever produced, is right up there with the popular actors when it comes to Filmfare best actor awards. He won it for Aakrosh in 1981, Chakra in 1982 and Masoom in 1984. After that, he was twice nominated, but did not win.
Aamir Khan has been one of the leading stars in Bollywood ever since he starred as Raj in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988. But for a long time, he refused to accept awards including the Filmfare awards. He has won the best actor Fimfare for Raja Hindustani in 1997, Lagan in 2002 and the for Dangal in 2017.
3. Hrithik Roshan – 4 wins
Hrithik Roshan danced and charmed his way into his fans’ hearts with his blockbuster debut in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai in 2000 and hasn’t looked back. He has, to his credit, 4 Filmfare best actor wins for Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai in 2000, Koi… Mil Gaya in 2004, Dhoom 2 in 2007 and Jodhaa Akbar in 2009. He got nine other nominations.
2. Amitabh Bachchan – 5 wins
Amitabh Bachchan, the original angry young man did no run out of fuel when he was not so young anymore. He has been equally popular in all decades eversince Zanjeer in 1973. Apart from being an immensely popular hero, Amitabh Bachchan, is also known as a fine actor. The Shenshah of Bollywood has five Filmfare best actor wins for Amar Akbar Anthony in 1978, Don in 1979, Hum in 1992, Black in 2006 and Paa in 2010. He holds the record for the highest number of Filmfare nominations at 32.
1. Shahrukh Khan and Dillip Kumar – 8 wins
Dillip Kumar, also known as the tragedy king, made his debut in 1944 in Jwar Bhata. He holds the Guinness World Record for winning the maximum number of awards by an Indian actor. He also holds the record for winning the maximum number of Filmfare best actor awards, alongside Shahrukh Khan, at 8 wins. He won the award for Daag in 1952, Azaad in 1956, Devdas in 1957, Naya Daur in 1958, Kohinoor in 1960, Leader in 1964, Ram Aur Shyam in 1967 and Shakti in 1982. Apart from that, he also 3 other nominations.
Shahruk Khan, known also as the King Khan or the Badshah of Bollywood, for good reasons, is one of the most popular actors of all time. He debuted in 1992 in Deewana and never looked back. His fandom is huge and he is loved and appreciated equally all over the world. No wonder then, that he stands right next to Dilip Kumar with the highest number of Filmfare best actor awards with every possibility of setting a new record in the times to come since he is still going strong as ever. He won the award for Baazigar in 1993, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in 1996, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1999, Mohabbatein in 2001, Devdas in 2003, Swades in 2005, Chak De India in 2008 and My Name Is Khan in 2011.
Apart from the above, there are actors who have won the prestegious Filmfare best actor award twice each. They are: Raj Kapoor, Sunil Dutt, Dev Anand, Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Anil Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor. Needless to say, with a long career ahead of him, young Ranbir Kapoor is expected to rise much highr in this list in future.
