Dhadak Movie Review – What Critics And Celebrities Have To Say
Dhadak has been one of the most awaited movies of recent times. It made several ripples. It’s the debut movie of Janhvi Kapoor, a social media darling and the recently deceased legend Sridevi‘s daughter. And for Ishan Khattar, though it’s not his debut, everyone wanted to see him open up his mainstream traditional Bollywood personality. But most of all, the tremendous trailer, the beautiful songs and the efficient marketing has built up expectations that are normally not associated with romantic movies, especially with debutants. Now that the movie is released, let’s see what the reactions of the critics and celebrities are.
|Starring||Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khattar, Ashutosh Rana|
|Directed by||Shashank Khaitan|
|Written by||Shashank Khaitan, Nagraj Manjule|
|Release date||20 July, 2018|
The story is a take on caste differences prevalent in Indian society. It is an official remake of the critically acclaimed Marathi film Sairat.
Review by Saibal Chatterjee on NDTV – Janhvi Kapoor And Ishaan Khatter Can’t Enliven Comatose Film
he film gets neither the love story nor the socio-political context of Sairat right
A muddled screenplay, bland storytelling and uneven lead performances leave this glossy Karan Johar production without a proper, palpable heartbeat.
Twitter Review by Taran Adarsh
Comparisons with Marathi blockbuster #Sairat are inevitable… Viewed as a stand-alone film, #Dhadak has several dramatic highs, scintillating music and importantly, the young pair [Ishaan and Janhvi] is electrifying… pic.twitter.com/74IpxWxd9m

Shashank Khaitan adapts #Sairat wonderfully well… Retains the essence, but gives #Dhadak a different texture… Romance is fresh, pure and energetic… Tense moments keep you on tenterhooks… Culmination leaves you shocked, stunned and speechless…

Review by Rohit Vats in Hindustan Times – Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter’s film lacks the depth of original
Set in Udaipur of Rajasthan, Dhadak barely touches the depths of caste politics.
Credit should be given to Ishaan, who seems to be enjoying the situation. He displays a wide range of emotions but the lack of depth in the narrative holds him back.

Review by Shubhra Gupta on Indian Express – There is no ‘dhak dhak’ in this Janhvi Kapoor starrer
Barring a few patches, Dhadak has neither requisite drama nor authenticity. It underlines all its scenes with blaring background music, to tell us how to feel.
neither Khattar, whom we’ve seen before, and Janhvi Kapoor, the late Sridevi’s daughter whose debut this is – come across as if they will live and die for their love.
Review by Kennith Roasario in The Hindu – Heart of the original lost in the remake
Universally, teenage love is rebellious, radical and effective because of its tenderness. That sense of fragility is missing in Dhadak’s narrative. Instead, there’s a feeling of artificiality to their romance in Udaipur and when they elope to Kolkata, the realisation that ‘one can’t live only on love and fresh air’ isn’t hard-hitting.
Director Shashank Kaitan gets emotional about his movie:
#Dhadak out today … #Janhvi #Ishaan … now my Bachchas belong to the world … love u both … have had the best time making this film with the two of you… its a film I am really proud of and both of you have made your families proud… @karanjohar love you and thank you … pic.twitter.com/0KpAXq5Bbh
