But Kaabil is a B-movie from the 80s with neither subtext nor nuance. The film then is redeemed – to some degree – by the sincerity and the conviction of its leading man. Hrithik makes you care, and keeps you invested in his pain. Even when the film becomes increasingly violent and practically implausible, his commitment doesn’t waver. He is the sole reason Kaabil doesn’t completely derail, and frankly the only reason to give the film a chance. I’m going with two-and-a-half out of five.

On the whole, KAABIL is gripping, gut-wrenching and is likely to stay with you for a long time. Now that DANGAL has almost exhausted its run at the ticket windows, the box-office is quiet and subdued and KAABIL should have no difficulty filling seats at cineplexes, despite a strong opponent releasing alongside. Rich in merits, this film has the power and potential to emerge a success story at the box-office. Highly recommended!.

Vijay Kumar Mishra has written a story which is quite different from other romantic or revenge stories. The blossoming love between two blind persons who don’t treat blindness as their handicap is heartwarming. The revenge of the visually handicapped Rohan is very exhilarating. The screenplay, penned by Vijay Kumar Mishra, is extremely fast-paced and keeps the audience glued to their seats. The first half is very fast-moving and also entertaining. The revenge drama of the second half is also pretty interesting. On the whole, Kaabil is an entertaining fare with some great performances. It will do well at the box-office.

Kaabil is a B-grade genre film elevated by the blazing talent of its lead player – Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik invests so much sweat and sincerity into this slim story that he forces us to stay invested in it. It’s up to Hrithik then to save the day and he doesn’t falter. The story becomes increasingly implausible and the violence, ugly. But there is such conviction in his courage that you can’t look away. Eventually then, Kaabil doesn’t match Hrithik’s calibre but I’m going with three stars. His performance demands it.

The challenge with doing a film whose beats are stacked from its opening frame is to insert surprise. Instead, Kaabil plays it strictly by the numbers, and you can see everything coming from a mile. Hrithik does all the heavy lifting and remains the only bright spot in this dispirited mess of a movie. He still has the moves. What he needs is a plot.

If the first half is packaged as a love story, the second half is more of an action film. Kaabil is not extraordinary, but it has all the elements of a ‘masala’ potboiler. The catch is that it’s been dished out in a typical Bollywood style which may not give it a novelty. But there isn’t any particular reason for not watching it.

Sanjay Gupta’s retribution drama, powered by Hrithik Roshan‘s steady intensity and a solid supporting cast, doesn’t pull off anything extraordinary with its visually challenged contrivance except whip up as many puns possible. From blind date to blind justice, it’s all there. Only haven’t we already seen these avatars in far more accomplished films and forms?

Kaabil is no where near perfect! Strictly for die-hard Hrithik fans who want to wash off Mohenjo Daro memories. Kaabil is not a must-watch. Hrithik fans will certainly enjoy it for his talented act but overall for thriller fans, there are too many loopholes to catch.

Revenge is a dish best served blind is the message Kaabil serves up. Drawing inspiration from Hollywood’s Blind Fury (1989) with Rutger Hauer in the lead and even borrowing shades of the Korean super hit, Broken (2014), Sanjay Gupta gives you a Bollywood adaptation that is entertaining and effective. The highlight of the film is Hrithik’s bravura performance. He is vulnerable as a lover and menacing as a killing-machine. Half a star in the movie-rating is reserved for his all-time best performance here.

When you walk into Kaabil, you know it’s about a blind man seeking revenge for his girl, but still it surprises you. You know what’s coming and still it’s impossible to resist. Kaabil beautifully combines sentiment and action. Kaabil is old-school, emotional and forceful. And an absolute must for all Hrithik Roshan fans. And if you aren’t his fan, you might feel differently after this film.

Kaabil is Hrithik Roshan‘s swan song and deservedly so becomes his career best performance. Watch and marvel at what can easily be termed as the finest performance to come out of Bollywood in a long time. Kaabil is dark and violent. There is very little scope for relief and humor in this script. That can become tiresome after a while.

But if you were to keep your eyes glued to the screen and follow the blind man’s graphite walking stick right down to the picture’s climax, I’m fairly certain you won’t be disappointed. Yeah, it is, for the most part, kaabil-e-tareef!
