1.Salman Khan – 270.33 Crore
Salman Khan has claimed back No 1 rank on the 2016 Forbes India Celebrity 100 List, with two big commercial success, Sultan and Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo. While Sultan earned at box office with a net India collection of Rs 300.45 crore, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo earned Rs 200 crore at the box office. The superstar has the most loyal fan following and boosted his earnings with 12 brand endorsements.
2. Shahrukh Khan – 221.75 Crore
Shahrukh Khan was at number one in 2015. But the actor lost it to Salman this year both in terms of box office success and brands endorsed. He had two big hits this year. Dilwale with Kajol and Fan where he played a double role. Both the movie opened well at the box office, but didn’t sustain for that long where he could beat the Sultan star. Shahrukh also lost a bit of ground with fewer endorsements compared to 2015.
3. Akshay Kumar – 203.03 Crore
Akshay Kumar is the only actor who continues to challenge the might of the three Khans (Salman, Shahrukh and Aamir) had an impressive run again. His number of films a year is always much more than the three khans. He had five releases this year – Airlift, Rustom and Housefull 3, Dishoom and Singh is Bling. But only three of them were successes (Airlift, Rustom and Housefull 3). Dishoom and Singh is Bliing did average business. This year could be a game changer for this actor as 2017 is going to see a big list of film releases from Akshay including Rajinikanth’s 2.0.
4. Hrithik Roshan – 90.25 Crore
Hrithik Roshan had a strange year at the box office. His only release, the much-awaited romantic epic drama Mohenjo Daro (2016), was a disaster, with a collection of just Rs 58 crore. The film was made on a budget of more than Rs 100 crore. He now has high hopes from his next Kaabil, we wait to see how much Kaabil will gross in total. But this year brand endorsement has proven to compensate the actor’s earnings. Hrithik continues to be active and popular on social media also.
5. Amitabh Bachchan – 32.62 Crore
Amitabh Bachchan, the most popular superstar for the longest time in Bollywood, has gone to his lowest rank in five years. With two disasters at the box office, it did not help Mr. Bachchan to claim any of his previous ranks. But Pink saved the year for him. Also a television show, Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi on Star Plus helped him averagely in terms of viewership.
6. Ranveer Singh – 67.42 Crore
Ranveer Singh has made a huge leap from the last year. His movie, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani, which was a hit. He also has also become very popular in the corporate world with a wide array of endorsements that have added to his revenue. His next movie Padmavati, which could be a game changer for him, is also expected to be a big hit.
7. Ranbir Kapoor 55.5 Crore
Ranbir Kapoor did not have a great year. His movie, Karan Johar‘s Bombay Velvet was a disaster. His next movie was Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha with Deepika Padukone, earned Rs 65 crore in collections, against a budget of around Rs 60 crore. Towards the end of the year, he came back in a big way with Karan Johar‘s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. His earnings from this movie however didn’t help him much to come up in the rank.
8. Kapil Sharma – 30.17 Crore
The ever charismatic Kapil Sharma is arguably the most popular face on television right now. With his ability to make everyone laugh, he is laughing all the way to the bank. This year, his show shifted from Colors to Sony and had a re-branding, but his popularity remains unchanged. His main source of earning are television shows, stage shows world-wide and endorsements. He is now working on two films, 13 August 1947 and Firangi.
9. Varun Dhawan – 25 Crore
The debutant actor of 2012’s romantic comedy Student of the Year had a mixed year. His film Dilwale co-starring Shahrukh khan’s dilwale did better at the box office overseas than in India. His solo release, Rohit Dhawan’s action drama Dishoom (2016), which also starred John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez, grossed Rs 110 crore worldwide.
10. Saif Ali Khan – 20.13 Crore
It was more a quiet year for Saif Ali Khan. That explains why he is at number 10. His endorsements were only a few too. Next year could be a game changer as films like Rangoon and chef are coming up.
