MS Dhoni, Sarbjit Are On Oscar Long List For Best Picture
Indian films M S Dhoni: The Untold Story and Sarabjit have found their way into the Oscar long list for the best picture. Oscar longlist is a list of possible nominations for a given category. Earlier A R Rahman’s name featured in the Oscar longlist for Pele: Birth Of A Legend.
MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is a biographical sports film on the life and story of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian cricketer who captained the Indian team to many famous victories including the world championship. The film stars Sushant Singh Rajput as Dhoni, along with Disha Patani, Kiara Advani, and Anupam Kher. The film chronicles the life of Dhoni from a young age and the series of life events that finally culminates to his stardom in the realm of cricket. The film is written and directed by Neeraj Pandey.
Sarabjit is biographical drama made on the life of Sarabjit Singh, the Indian man who was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1991 and who subsequently spent 22 years in the Pakistani prison for alleged terrorism and spying. Radeep Hooda is cast as Sarabjit Singh and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays Sarabjit’s sister. The film is directed by Omung Kumar.
The Oscar loglist has 336 entries and the Indian films will be competing against the likes of La La Land, which leads the Golden Globes nominations, Moonlight, Hacksaw Ridge, Deadpool, Captain America: Civil War, Suicide Squad and X-Men: Apocalypse.
Meanwhile Indias official entry for the Oscars – Visaranai failed to make it to the longlist. Visaranai is a Tamil film by actor Dhanush that won three national awards.
