Netflix clarifies it has no plans to sue Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil – will investigate rumor
There was buzz in some media agencies that Netflix, the American multinational streaming service was planning to sue Hrithik Roshan‘s Kaabil for plagiarism. Now Netflix has clarified that they are indeed not planning to sue Kaabil and that they are looking into the rumor.
Netflix has a show called “Daredevil” in which the protagonist, played by Charlie Cox, is blind but depends on his superior sense of hearing to physically fight villains. It’s based on Marvels comics character of the same name.
In Kaabil also Hrithik Roshan plays a blind man and one can see clearly from the trailers that he sets out take revenge on the villains and fights them physically, much like the Daredevil character from the Netflix series.
The rumors, now set to rest, claimed that Netflix felt that parts of Kaabil was plagiarized and planned to sue the producers. Now that Netflix has clarified the issue, fans are wondering what motive could have given rise to such a rumor!
Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Kaabil‘s director Sanjay Gupta had said “It’s a preposterous comparison because Hrithik (Roshan) is not a superhero in Kaabil. His character is a blind man who does what he does best. In Daredevil, the protagonist fights 30 people at the same time. None of that is happening in Kaabil. If they sue us, we will definitely fight back.”
This is however not the first controversy for the Kaabil and the Roshans. They are already in a standoff against Shahrukh Khan‘s Raees. Earlier the both Raees and Kaabil were scheduled to be released on the 26th of January. Then Rakesh Roshan shifted the date a day earlier to 25th. When Raees trailer released, they also shifted the release date to 25th, leaving Rakesh Roshan unhappy.
This is not the only standoff between the two movies. There is also a contest of the two item songs that is gaining momentum. Come 25th, it will also be a battle between Haseeno Ka Deewana and Laila Main Laila. The Roshans have gone ahead and have exposed Urvashi‘s complete video song on Youtube as a promotional plan and it’s working gaining momentum on social media. Raees has decided to keep Laila Main Laila item song a mystery with nothing so far more than a few seconds of glimpse released on their trailer that rocked the social media.
Netflix is an American premium VOD (Video On Demand) service that streams digital content to it’s wide base of subscribers across the globe. Netflix entered India about a year ago.
