Sanjay Leela Bhansali Slapped, Beaten By Protesters On Padmavati Sets in Rajasthan
Celebrity filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali was slapped, his hair pulled and beaten on his own sets of the film Padmavati in Jaipur, Rajasthan. His set was invaded by protesters who alleged that the film shows a much-celebrated Rajput queen in poor light. The protesters came from the Rajput Karni Sena, assulted Mr. Bhansali and vandalized the equipment. Accoroding to the protesters, the movie portrays a much-celebrated Rajput queen in poor light. “Padmavati”, a historical drama, is based on the story of Queen Padmini, who famously refused to submit to emperor Alauddin Khilji. She killed herself along with scores of other women before the emperor could storm the fort.
The protesters alleged that the film has love scenes between Queen Padmini and Alauddin Khilji, played by actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
The protesters from the Rajput Karni Sena have demanded that Mr Bhansali delete such scenes in the film if any.
“We had warned the filmmaker against presenting wrong facts. When we came to know about the shooting, we gathered there and protested.” said a leader of the group, Narayan Singh.
The Press Trust of India quotes the Jaipur police saying that Mr.Bhansali has decided not to shoot in that location.
“The filmmakers have assured that they will not shoot here and will pack up,” senior police officer Anshuman Bhomia told PTI.
