The Kapoor Vs Kapoor Box Office Family Clash – Sonam’s Veere Di Wedding And Harshvardhan’s Bhavesh Joshi
We have seen some legendary box office clashes in Bollywood. What we have never seen before is a family clash involving as many as three members of the same family.
Come 1st of June, the siblings of the Kapoor family will lock horns over the box office. They will charge at each other and they will fight for ticket sales. Sonam Kapoor‘s long awaited “Veere Di Wedding” produced by sister Rhea Kapoor will release on the same date as brother Harshvardhan Kapoor‘s “Bhavesh Joshi Superhero“. And fans can’t wait to see who wins this clash.
And if that us not enough, there is also Arjun Kapoor in an intem song “Tere Chumme Me Chyavanprash Hai”. That’s just too many Kapoors at the same time.

Father Anil Kapoor‘s Salman Khan starer Race 3 is releasing on 15th June. If it was any closer than that, we would have seen a family clash of epic proportions. How we wish that would had happened. But both Veere Di Wedding and Bhavesh Joshi Superhero would be past their primary business days by the time Race 3 hits the screens.

So, for now, it’s just a clash of the Kapoor siblings. The two movies are interesting to say the least. Veere Di Wedding looks like a chickflick full of humor, masti and relationship issues. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is a superhero movie where the protagonist does not have any superpowers and fights against corruption in a costume. The trailer does remind one a little bit of the Hollywood blockbuster Kickass. The movie seems fun in the beginning and then turns dark fast – again a bit like Kickass.
Bhavesh Joshi Superhero was originally scheduled to be released on 25th of May. Then it was pushed to June 1 as the makers considered the date more appropriate for distributional profit. This is an attempt to stay away from big releases either ways. Does this mean that the makers of Bhavesh Joshi Superhero do not consider Veere Di Wedding as a threat? Is that opinion shared by Harshvardhan Kapoor?
From the trailers, it looks like the target audience of the two movies might be varied in nature. While Veere Di Wedding is more girly and is likely to attract people who like chickflicks, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, a lone vigilante movie, will probably attract more young male crowds. At the same time, the trailer of Bhavesh Joshi Superhero does not give much evidence of outstanding action. Regardless of how the target audience may or may not be divided, the fact remains that come the first week of June, movie lovers will have to choose between the two Kapoor siblings for their nights out.
One major factor will be Veere Di Wedding‘s superior star power. Sonam Kapoor herself far outweighs her brother when it comes to sheer star power. Then there is the monstrous star power of Kareena Kapoor. Then there is Swara Bhaskar.
In comparison, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero falls short by miles. The whole movie rests on the shoulders of Harshvardhan Kapoor alone. And as good looking as he is, he pales in comparison to the star-power his rival movie has.
Also, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero‘s trailer has a very obvious lack of feminine presence. Radhika Apte is there in the movie, but barely gets a frame or two in the trailer. That means either her role is insignificant, or is being downplayed as a surprise. We are hoping for the later.
In Veere Di Wedding, the four friends make a very interesting group, having interesting conversations, banter, jokes and girly giggles. There is also a young group in Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, but from the glimpses we get from the trailer, they do not look particularly interesting. It’s most likely on purpose, because the protagonist is supposed to be a very common young man. The fact still remains that the boys group of Bhavesh Joshi Superhero pales in comparison to the considerable charm that the foursome females in Veere Di Wedding unleash.
When it comes to a trailer-on-trailer clash, Veere Di Wedding gets a crushing victory in every department.
Veere Di Wedding. The movie is has some really talented actors in Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhaskar. Each has proved herself as an actress. Harshvardhan Kapoor has not enough movies to his name yet to prove his acting talent. May be this movie will change it all? Besides, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is way too dependent on Harshvardhan Kapoor only.
Veere Di Wedding wins again. Awesome colors and nice costume some very hot looking girls. And not to forget, producer Rhea Kapoor herself is an accomplished stylist. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero has a superhero costume, but the costume is not impressive. It was not designed to be flashy, on purpose, like a Captain America or Batman. Because Bhavesh Joshi Superhero does not look like, by any means, a flashy superhero movie.
This is a no-brainier. Veere Di Wedding wins it a million light-years. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero does give an injection of some glamour though the item song “Tere Pyaar Mein Chavanprash hai”. But it falls utterly short.
Veere Di Wedding again wins this run, but not by a large margin. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero has some interesting and good dialog. But the chit chat between the girls in VDW and then the dialog in the more serious scenes definitely out do Bhavesh Joshi Superhero.
Veere Di Wedding seems to have better music.
Because that is the intention of a trailer – Veere Di Wedding wins this one. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero‘s story seems predictable. It looks like one of those movies where if you have seen the trailer, you have almost seen the movie. It gives away the origin, the character of the protagonist and what he fights. The trailer does not show villain or a female lead that can generate any curiosity. Veere Di Wedding on the other hand, shows a great group of friends having awesome fun and then shows that not all is honky-dory among them all the time. One would be curious to know what goes wrong and how they fight it and what happens in the end. It gives away the premise, but not the story.
We are not going to compare youtube views of the two trailers since they were not released at the same time.
