Zaira Wasim Should Be ‘Celebrated, Not Persecuted,’ Tweet Celebs After Dangal Teen Was Trolled
For budding actress of Dangal fame Zaira Wasim the controversy has spiraled only. First, against her and then in her support. The 16 year old teen has all the attention of the nation. It all happened in just 24 hours. First she posted an apology, then in three hours the Kashmiri teen deleted the post. And it all turned into national news.
The story goes like this. The 16 year old met up with Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday for which she was trolled extensively.
Though the reason for people trolling her for this meeting isn’t that apparent it seems to have a past connection. A year ago, in December 2015, something similar had happened and Zaira had spoken about it in an interview. “some nasty comments about me were posted on social media. Aamir Khan and the rest of the crew helped me. I am still getting comments from unknown persons, but I believe in positivity and have learned how to deal with such comments,” Zaira recollected in that interview.
Mostly acting in Bollywood films being looked down upon in the Valley. In her interview Zaira had admitted that convincing her own parents to let her act especially since she was a Kashmiri was quite a task.In her apology which she deleted later has an apparent reference to the months of unrest in the Kashmir Valley last year in which more than 80 people were killed.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Zaira is indeed a good actress. It is wrong to force her to apologise on Facebook for meeting Mehbooba Mufti.”
Ms Mufti said today of their interaction, “When it comes to talent, youngsters from Jammu and Kashmir are next to none and we must celebrate them and not those who post their photos on Facebook with guns in their hands.”
Zaira Wasim appeared a few commercials before being cast in Dangal. She plays Geeta, the elder daughter of Aamir Khan‘s character, Mahavir Singh Phogat. Dangal is the true story of how Mr Phogat trained his daughters Geeta and Babita as medal-winning wrestlers. The older version of Geeta Phogat is played in the film by actress Fatima Sana Shaikh.
